I have been trying to figure this out for about 3 years now. I been trying to figure out how to do a marble affect. Here is a link to show you what it looks like. The guy says its 100% powder. Its also done by a dipping process in water. Think of the easter egg kit for little kids:) This is the hottest thing in powder coating right now. Please help!!!!! And I'll take my hat now. Just kidding.http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i186qlKoJUE

thanks   Steve

I am gong to go back and watch the video and pull some of our tech guys together to discuss.  There are a few options I can think of off the top of my head, but I want to find the best one.  Hopefully, we can do a quick video of the process for you with step-by-step instructions.  Give me a week or so to get back to the lab and get this filmed and we'll see what we can do for you!

I think we have figured out a few different methods for you.  Unfortunately, we've had more than our normal share of snow and ice in Nashville and I've had limited opportunities to get into the training center to film.  I haven't forgotten you so keep a close eye on the boards for an answer!

I'm waiting on a new product to arrive (should be this week).  I plan on giving it a try then.  Sorry it's taken so long, but I'm really looking to post as proven a method as possible.

Stay tuned.

Actually, it is a newer version of what you are calling "powder water".  Good guess!

Here's a quick update on the situation:  Any of you that know me or have attended a class that I may have taught know that I can be somewhat of a perfectionist.  I am going to find the result that I like that is consistent and easily taught.  I could post up some guesses but that does neither of us any good.  I really want to make sure I have all of the issues worked out and it's as simple as possible.  Doing this time finish in ALL POWDER is a trick.  We are still working and I promise I haven't forgotten this.  Actually, I have spent a few nights working on it in my head while at home.  I'd rather be a little patient and get it right as to tell anyone wrong.

Hang in there.  I'll get it.

Here's the problem we are having thus far:

There are tons of things out there that people post and call powder coating.  The question always is "What is it that I don't know?".  In other words, is it truly totally powder coated?  Could it be a sublimation process, etc.

I can create a part that looks similar to the part as shown but not with the same definition.  Anyone else care to offer some pointers?  Once again, I tend to be a perfectionist so I don't want to put some half-way answer out there.  Any suggestions?

Joey, I am not an expert as you still I would like to take the privilege to help zoe. I would rather have a discussion with my colleagues  at the production unit where racks and shelves are manufacture and let see if it could be figured or not.

You can do the effects using the sublimation process (with the water).  The trick we've been looking for is for someone in a smaller shop to be able to do the process without spending a ton of money on new equipment.  We have the same discussions at times with those looking for a very reflective chrome in powder coating:  the chrome powders just aren't that reflective unless you use the vacuum metalization process.  With vacuum metalization, the chrome looks amazing, it's  all powder, but the machinery is expensive.  It's worth it if you are doing chrome wheels all day, every day, but you can't cost justify it if your only doing the occasional part.

The marble looks can be created by using the liquid powder and a spray gun to create a "base" effect and then using a candy color over the top.  This does take some trial and error as well as a little artistic ability to make it look good.  I'm still going to keep my eyes and ears open and see if we can find a better way.  Anyone with ideas, please chime in.  This forum is meant for you guys to all share what you have learned!

Thanks to all those that have participated thus far.  Let's keep building the forum so everyone has somewhere to go for the best information available.
